Rain Taxi announces 2025 date and NEW VENUE for its 25th Annual Twin Cities Book Festival:
Saturday, November 8, 2025 at Union Depot

After many fun-filled years at the Minnesota State Fairgrounds, Rain Taxi's Twin Cities Book Festival is moving to St. Paul’s historic Union Depot—just in time to celebrate twenty-five consecutive years of the beloved literary celebration, which continues to expand in attendance and vision. This new venue offers increased capacity for the TCBF in a dazzling space with historic charm.
While the venue has changed, the core features of the Festival will remain the same: an abundant book fair with publishers, literary organizations, magazines, writing programs, libraries, literacy advocates, used and rare book dealers, and more, as well as multiple stages with author readings, talks, and activities for all ages. As well, the TCBF will remainFREE and open to the public.
“We are thrilled to announce this move,” says Festival Director Eric Lorberer, who along with Rain Taxi’s board of directors has been envisioning the transition behind the scenes even as the nonprofit organization has continued its regular service to the literary community both locally and nationwide. “With the Book Festival celebrating its 25th appearance in the Twin Cities and Rain Taxi's quarterly magazine marking 30 years of continuous publication at the end of the year as well, we intend to double down on our passion for the written word—it is the hallmark of humanity’s capacity for understanding, education, and communication, and the world could use more of that, it seems. We look forward to meeting up with readers where all the tracks converge, in our capital city, for this anniversary year."
The largest and longest running annual get-together for our state’s devoted book community, the one-day TCBF attracted over 1,000 people in its first year, and gradually moved into larger venues as it grew; its recent incarnations at the Minnesota State Fairgrounds have attracted over 6,000 audience members. Rain Taxi is preparing for an uptick. “Books reach people, they just need to find their readers,” says Lorberer. “And we love playing matchmaker.”

History of the Festival
Rain Taxi launched the Twin Cities Book Festival in 2001 as a way to support readers, writers, publishers, and booksellers, as well as to engage the Twin Cities literary community in an exchange of ideas.
While writing and reading are usually solitary activities, the TCBF is a way to celebrate writing in community and acknowledge the social value of writing as an art form. Part of Rain Taxi’s mission is to call attention to the abundance and diversity of contemporary literature, and the Festival surely does that, while bringing pride to the Minneapolis-St. Paul area as a reading capital of the US.
