ABOUT THE BOOKS
Black Excellence Project/Read Woke Books series: These books celebrate notable contributions and accomplishments of Black Americans—many of whom have been left out of history books. They bring to light the names and stories of Black achievers in careers ranging from science, politics, and business to sports, music, and entertainment.
First but Forgotten series: Open a history book, and you’ll probably see some familiar names, such as Cesar Chavez and Rosa Parks. We learn a lot about some historical figures. But that means other people’s stories aren’t told as often. In this series, you’ll learn about some people you don’t know—and how their stories connect to the people you do know. With key biographical information and text features that add more context, young readers will discover important stories they should know and explore why these stories aren’t well known.
