In You Can Be the Last Leaf (Milkweed Editions), acclaimed poet Maya Abu Al-Hayyat has created a richly textured portrait of Palestinian interiority—at once wry and romantic, worried and tenacious, and always singing itself. Join us for a special event at which the author herself—in the Twin Cities on a short trip from Palestine—will read poems in Arabic, with the English translations by Fady Joudah voiced by poet, novelist, and Mizna writing community member Yara Omer; a conversation between Maya and interdisciplinary poet Moheb Soliman (author of HOMES) will round out the event.
